Branding is identifying who you are and what you stand for - and developing conceptual strategies to get the right message across to your customers.

Many people confuse branding and marketing, or combine the two. Branding is all about your identity and the message you want to send to prospective customers or clients; it includes research, logo design, mission identity, and strategy development.

The Importance of Branding

So, why do you need branding? There are many schools of thought on this, but everyone agrees that a brand should be recognizable and infused with deep thinking. Customers want to relate to brands, almost like a friendship, and that relationship can grow over time as they continue to purchase products or employ services. Further, people are smart: they can tell if something was thrown together and tossed up without any real meaning behind it.

The message you send to your customers is of the utmost importance. Branding goes beyond a solid, respectable logo to generate a firm message about you and what you stand for. The strategies developed within the branding process set guidelines for consistent marketing efforts in the future, as well.

Branding is about asking the right questions to overhaul your market position. Several of the most basic questions are:

  • How should your logo be displayed?
  • What marketing materials will your business utilize to get your name out there?
  • How much will you invest in those marketing materials?
  • What makes you different from your competitors – and why should a prospective customer choose your products or services?

Phases of the Branding Process

There are three phases to my branding process.

  1. Really get into what you’re all about and what sets you apart. This involves a lot of soul-searching into your business, as well as competitive analysis.
  2. Develop concepts and strategies that would improve your stance your industry, including designing your fantastic logo and testing marketing materials.
  3. At the end of it all, I’ll provide you with your unique Brand Book: an actual book that sets guidelines and exact specifications for brand usage to maintain a consistent message.
